First communion yellow cake with buttercream icing. This is a double layered 1/4 sheet. I definitely could not stand the buttercream consistency..But hopefully next time it’ll work more in my favor. The lettering was made of chocolate melts drawn out on parchment paper, hardened in the fridge and transferred on the cake. The chocolate crosses, I used chocolate molds and the cake balls were oreo and cheesecake!
Finally tried my own truffle recipe! I can’t wait to try with different flavors and learn how to use fillings! I also had pound cake on hand and decided to try cake balling them with buttercream :D My first set of truffles were so ugly I REFUSED to take pictures hehehe! But they were too soft and not at all pliable!! Too much heavy cream I guess. The second set was fun to make. I used espresso beans, nuts, and confectioner’s sugar for toppings.
Went to Joanns and bought some silver shimmer most likely to be used for the first communions I’m scheduled to do. I’ve been looking for cross and graduation molds (for chocolate) for two graduations in May. Any ideas for souvenirs anyone? I was looking to do cold porcelain souvenirs but it looks like that might be too complicated. We’ll have to wait and see. I’m also thinking maybe soaps? I need more brainstorming :)
Here’s the truffles!
Some of them are chocolate truffles, the perfect circles are pound cake balls, and then chocolate dipped bananas
Espresso beans :) they made the kitchen smell so good!
I FINALLY worked with fondant today :) I made mocha cupcakes and 7minute frosting and if only I had taken a picture of the mess I made..you’d be exhausted for me! Enjoy!
I had to try hello kitty 3 times before i got her semi correct :) i wish i would have shaped her head but she’s still cute!! I had a hard time working buttercream with the cake I made last week so I worked with cupcakes and it’s a great start. Hopefully I can get mini cakes done soon.
I had originally wanted to work with fondant..since yesterday, but I just didn’t have the energy or heart to bake more cupcakes and work with fondant when my mom made mocha roll.. oh delishhhh mocha roll. So I helped/watched her make it and I iced/frosted and tasted (yummmmmy). I also was inspired by Pioneer Woman to try molten chocolate lava cake, so I did it. I must say I am proud. I thought it would be much harder! It is the perfect chocolate fix for your “I just need chocolate cuz it makes me happy” days. The recipe is from Tasty Kitchen by Brandielle I miss my son so much I actually ate the baked goods. (he’s with daddy visiting) oh and yes I have a 19 month old angel :) he would love this chocolate overload.
Chocolate Chips (Semi-sweet) yummmm.
So last thursday, my family and I went to CakeArt in Tucker,GA (heard bout this from Bakerella) and I about had an aneurism from all the stuff they had..literally everything a pastry artist/event planner would ever want. AND they have Wilton classes!!!! (well so does michael’s) but still this place has everything from different size and shape baking pans, to different colors for icing, cookie cutters, boxes, sprinkles..candy, equipment and all!! AH!!! I get excited just remembering :) so we bought a ton of stuff including fondant and I’m now learning how to work with it. Here’s some of the stuff I saw and bought.
So after this adventure..I had a cake to make..that strawberry cake that was originally suppose to be a bigger version of the cupcakes (See last post) became a strawberry torte (martha stewarts recipe) and the customer said it was good..so did some family members who would be straight up if it sucked so I was satisfied..bummed that I didn’t get to taste it but happy everyone who did liked it! It inspired my mom to make her favorite goldilocks mocha roll. She’s currently making it again for me as we speak (I should be watching)
wait for my fondant work!!!
